Golfers encouraged to enter county events

» GOLFERS in Gloucestershire are being encouraged to test their game from next month as 2021 competition season starts.

Fourteen county competitions take place between May and September and the county’s Golf Union are encouraging golfers to challenge themselves and compete.

Derek Butler, Championship chairman said: “These events are a fantastic opportunity for players across the Gloucestershire region to challenge themselves. We have competitions for all age groups and after the success of Joe Long, we hope to see record numbers of attendees this year.”

Long, 23, has played at county level in Gloucestershire since attending the first County Academy Selection Day in 2009.

He recently returned from The Masters at Augusta, following his win at Royal Birkdale to become the R & A 2020 Amateur Champion.

Competitions include the County Seniors Championship, Amateur Championship, Junior Team Championship and The West of England Under 16’s Amateur Strokeplay Championship.
