Golfers encouraged to enter county events

» GOLFERS in Gloucester­shire are being encouraged to test their game from next month as 2021 competitio­n season starts.

Fourteen county competitio­ns take place between May and September and the county’s Golf Union are encouragin­g golfers to challenge themselves and compete.

Derek Butler, Championsh­ip chairman said: “These events are a fantastic opportunit­y for players across the Gloucester­shire region to challenge themselves. We have competitio­ns for all age groups and after the success of Joe Long, we hope to see record numbers of attendees this year.”

Long, 23, has played at county level in Gloucester­shire since attending the first County Academy Selection Day in 2009.

He recently returned from The Masters at Augusta, following his win at Royal Birkdale to become the R & A 2020 Amateur Champion.

Competitio­ns include the County Seniors Championsh­ip, Amateur Championsh­ip, Junior Team Championsh­ip and The West of England Under 16’s Amateur Strokeplay Championsh­ip.
