Is every single Covid death really a tragedy?
WE have heard people say, “Every single one of the 100,000 [now 127,000] covid deaths is a tragedy.” Is it?
At my age, my death would not be a tragedy – sad for my family, but not a tragedy. Some deaths are “a blessed relief”.
The tragedy is that for a whole year people living or dying alone, whether in care home, hospital or own home, have been deprived of the comfort of, and contact with, their families. And I feel sorry for families who have had to carry out funerals under lockdown restrictions.
But the real tragedy is those many people who have died unsaved, alienated from Jesus Christ, unrepentant, who have rejected God, and can now expect to spend eternity in hell. It’s not as if, in this country, they can say they never had a chance to consider the salvation available through Jesus.
