Sustainable new homes could go up on site of former garden nursery

-

A FORMER plant nursery is set to be turned into 22 new sustainable homes.

Newland Homes has acquired the site which is in Kidnappers Lane, Leckhampton, in Cheltenham.

They are set to build 22 low-carbon and zero-carbon properties, which will be a mix of detached open market houses and affordable homes.

The company will use locally sourced materials and renewable energy technologies and features, including solar panels combined with air source heat pumps.

This will meet zero carbon status and provide a net gain in energy consumption with the property providing more energy than it consumes. The homes will also exceed current regulatory requirements for sustainability.

The location of the site is near the new 900-pupil capacity secondary school which is being built on the countryside between Farm Lane and Kidnappers Lane, off the A46 Shurdington Road. Newland Homes says it wants to provide well-designed homes that meet the needs of the local community. Andrew Billings, Land Director at Newland Homes, said: “Leckhampton is a very popular location to the south of Cheltenham and we have an exciting new development in the pipeline here, which combined with the new secondary school currently being constructed near the site, will result in another much sought-after Newland Homes scheme. “A Reserved Matters application has been submitted and we hope to receive the final go ahead for these 22 homes, which will blend with the character of this semi-rural location. The properties have been designed to reflect the agricultural history of the area, however they will include modern design features as well as eco-conscious and sustainable aspects such as air source heat pumps and solar panels.”
