Make a splash in an old bathroom

Yes it is one of the most functional rooms in the home, but that doesn’t mean the bathroom can’t be beautiful. SAMANTHA MASSEY suggests ways to add serious style

A FULL bathroom renovation isn’t a job you undertake lightly. It requires a lot of planning, a lot of patience and, quite often, a lot of money.

But if yours is crying out for a makeover, and budget, time and patience are not on your side, there are plenty of ways to add impact without heading down the full renovation route.

Here are three ways to inject some serious style into this functional space:

GO BOTANICAL

House plants have been a huge hit in the home for a few years now, thanks to all their biophilic benefits such as boosting your mood, lowering stress, reducing fatigue and improving air quality, their popularity has soared over lockdown with many of us packing our temporary home offices with luscious botanicals.

But the bathroom is one room lagging. After all, not all house plants suit its humidity and lack of natural light, and let’s be honest, withering plants do little to add style.

But choose wisely and you’re on to a winner. Botanicals in the bathroom will not only soften the clinical elements of the room, but it will give it a tropical vibe without being garish.

If you want to go down the real route, opt for an orchid which not only thrives in humid conditions but will give your bathroom a spa-like feel, or try an ivy in all its trailing glory.

Alternatively, if you’re not the most green-fingered of homeowners, today’s faux plants have come a long way since the glaring obvious plastic plants of yesteryear.

Just remember to keep dusting the leaves for maximum impact.
