Longlevens take double Cup victory over game Gordon League

-

LONGLEVENS approached the second game of the Cluster Cup determined to put right the wrongs of the previous week, having had their wings clipped by a spirited Spartans, and saw off Gordon League 38-9.

League drew first blood in the first minute with a penalty, and indiscipline saw the score get to 6-6.

Longlevens began to put phases together. The ball was kept tight to the ruck and Sam Collier powered over for an unconverted try.

More indiscipline followed from Levens and another penalty was conceded in the 22, taking the score to 11-9.

Again, Levens were able to string good phases together, forcing League to concede penalties at the ruck. Brad Wilkins put Levens into the corner and from the resulting line-out, Tom Denby bundled over for a converted try, taking the half time score to 18-9.

The half-time talk centred on keeping discipline and playing in the right areas, and this was put into practice by Furley and Wilkins, as a kick to the corner was chased by Henry York, who skidded over for another converted try.

Wilkins adopted the old-school

Garryowen to great effect. The League full back couldn’t deal with them, and from one dropped catch the ball found its way to Joe Weatherley for the bonus point try.

Debutant winger Jack Bobbins scored the last try of the day.

Tomorrow (May 21), Longlevens welcome Hartpury Bucks to Longford Lane for a 6.30pm kick-off.

Levens’ second XV beat Gordon

League IIS 38-28. Longlevens conceded an early try from a charge down after 10 minutes but began to grow into the game, Martin Deacon going over a try.

Robin Hanman intercepted a pass to score and the third try was finished by Gerran Smith.

Deacon scored a second try, with others coming from debutant Stuart Baker and Will Kemmett.
