Chamberlain grateful for chance with home club

-

TOM Chamberlain was urged to “go out, play some football and show your talent” after being released by Cheltenham Town manager Michael Duff.

The central midfielder joined his home town club at the age of nine and progressed through the ranks to earn a professional deal last summer.

Chamberlain, who turns 19 in June, made three starts and one substitute appearance for the senior team, all of which were in the EFL Trophy.

“I will always remember my time at Cheltenham fondly,” Chamberlain said.

“It’s been 10 years of my life and it’s all I’ve ever known really.

“I gave my everything and I can’t thank the club enough for everything they have done for me. I wish them nothing but the best for the future.”

Chamberlain has thoroughly enjoyed continuing his development under Duff since graduating from the academy.

“He’s been brilliant with me since he came in as manager,” former All Saints Academy pupil Chamberlain said.

“He brought me up from a scholar and gave me good advice and instructions, so I am grateful for everything he’s done for me.

“I’d like to thank the gaffer, Russ (Milton), Wadey (Elliott), Pete (Haynes) and Antoine (Thompson) for everything they’ve done for me. I have nothing but respect for them and I wish them all the best, too.”

Chamberlain did not appear in the Football League, but he has still been a part of Duff’s title-winning squad and this season has been an experience he will never forget.

“The highlight has to be getting promoted at the age of 18,” he said. “I was on the bench a lot and always involved.

“Becoming champions was a dream come true and to do that with the team I love and support is an honour.”

Chamberlain will now take some time to weigh up his options, but he remains confident he can battle back and play at a good level.

“My plan is to sit down and talk with people and assess the options,” he said.

“I’ll get better and stronger over the summer and see what happens, but I will give my all wherever I go.

“I believe in my ability and know I can go right to the top.”
