Checking in Plan for luxury hotel, restaurant and pub
HISTORIC buildings in central Cheltenham left empty since the first lockdown last year could be transformed into a pub, restaurant and luxury hotel apartments.
Developer Property Creations has put in plans to revive the buildings last used by South West-based chain The Stable.
The listed buildings on the corner of Clarence Street and Crescent Place could be opened up again as a restaurant and pub, and there could even be luxury hotel apartments installed on the upper floors.
The plans submitted by the developer show the company wants to transform what were three buildings: 40 Clarence Street, on the corner; what was originally a house at 1 Crescent Place; and the building nextdoor, previously Salem Baptist Chapel school, which is where the main entrance is sited.
The plans say: “The site has been disused since it was closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The basement houses a trade kitchen, cellar and office for the bar and restaurant, which occupied the ground and first floor. There is a second pizza kitchen on the first floor.
“The second and third floors are laid out for residential use but are understood to have been vacant since around 2015.”
The developer wants to split the ground floor into two, with a pub or bar in the part looking out onto Clarence Street and a restaurant in the part of the complex stretching down Crescent Place.
It wants to turn the flats above the buildings into hotel apartments, and it would also install a mezzanine floor in the old chapel school building to allow it to create 14 luxury suites, some split across two floors.
