Mobile speed cameras catch 38 motorists on A40 Golden Valley

-

MOBILE speed cameras have caught 38 drivers hurtling down the A40 Golden Valley bypass between Gloucester and Cheltenham in breach of the 70mph speed limit.

Six offences of not wearing seatbelts on the busy dual carriageway, which connects with the M5, were also recorded by mobile speed detection vans in November.

In total, 171 drivers were caught speeding as police targeted six priority roads with the Mobile Camera Enforcement Team, although one of the roads recorded no speeders and no other offences.

The A40 was not the worst road for speeding and other offences last month – 68 motorists were caught breaching the 30mph speed limit on Whelford Road, Kempsford, near Fairford.

Another bad road for speeding and other offences was the B4008 Bristol Road, at Olympus Park, Gloucester, where 42 people were caught speeding, two were spotted using mobile phones and 10 were not wearing a seatbelt.

But no speeders were spotted on New Barn Lane, Prestbury, nor were any other offences detected by the enforcement team.

Full results from the six locations were:

Welford Road, Welford (30mph): 68 speeders; one non-seatbelt

Beachley Road, Sedbury (20mph): four speeders, one non-seatbelt

A40 Golden Valley (70mph): 38 speeders; six non-seatbelt

Bath Road, Eastington (30mph): 19 speeders; two mobile phone use, seven non-seatbelt

B4008 Bristol Road, Olympus Park (30mph): 42 speeders; two mobile phone use, 10 non-seatbelt

New Barn Lane, Prestbury (30mph): no offences detected.

The Camera Enforcement Team have been visiting as many of the sites as possible to remind drivers about their behaviour and to enforce the law where people have been driving at excessive speeds or committing other offences.
