Sidibe hits winner to save the day for Evesham

-

» TOUMANI Sidibe’s late goal gave Evesham United a second Southern League Division One South win in a row as they edged out bottom side Barnstaple Town 3-2 at the Jubilee Stadium.

Barnstaple found the net first, William Tucker finding himself unmarked and his shot gave Isaac Parry no chance.

Evesham’s task looked more difficult on 36 minutes as Calvin Dinsley picked up his second yellow card of the game, reducing the home side to 10 men.

But Evesham turned the game around in five sublime minutes.

The first Robins goal was a solo effort in the 38th minute. Sidibe picked up the ball in his own half before twisting, turning, and powering his way into the visitor’s box, before making no mistake.

Evesham then took the lead through Kyle Belmonte just before the break as he fired home a spectacular 30-yard effort.

After 54 minutes on the clock, it looked like Evesham were going to double their lead, when a Mike Symons cross found Sidibe whose header looked to be goal bound, only to be denied by a fingertip save.

The scores were level on 73 minutes, as Bradley Gale got on the end of a deep cross giving the visitors what looked like a very valuable equaliser and possibly only their second point of the season.

But 10-man Evesham United kept pushing before getting their reward with three minutes remaining.

A well struck Adam Mace free kick could only be parried by the keeper and was slotted home by Sidibe.

Cirencester travelled to Devon to face Willand Rovers for the first time at their Silver Street ground and after a hard-fought game on a difficult pitch returned with a 2-0 win.

The home side adapted to the conditions better in the first half with their lively front runners testing the Cirencester defence but five minutes after the interval Cirencester were awarded a penalty for handball thatcaptain Jake Lee smashed into the roof of the net.

Willand had a player sent off before Cirencester added a second goal when Levi Irving tucked the ball under the advancing keeper to seal the game.
