‘Devastated’ Firm offers £5,000 reward after theft of ‘unique’ climbing wall

BOSSES behind a planned new climbing park at Bentham, close to the A46 between Cheltenham and Gloucester, have offered a £5,000 reward after having a “unique” item stolen.

Those behind the 270 Climbing Park revealed what they described as the “lousy news” on their Facebook page.

They said someone had stolen a trailer belonging to the company, which was carrying a mobile digiwall – an interactive climbing wall.

They said: “We understand that the people who took it were probably after the trailer rather than its contents, but obviously we’re devastated. Our mobile digiwall is completely unique and the only one of its kind (we think in the world).

“It has little worth to anyone who doesn’t know how to operate it and as it’s completely unique it can’t be used openly by anyone else. The scrap value of the equipment is also tiny.”

They appealed to anyone who might see or hear anything about the equipment in the coming months to call them on 0345 3753285 or email info@ mobileclimbing.co.uk – anonymously if necessary.

They added: “Though we would love the trailer returned, the main thing we want back is the contents (the wall). We have a summer diary full of bookings with children waiting to have fun on it who will now be left disappointed.

“Therefore, we are offering a reward of up to £5,000 for the return of the contents in full working order, no questions asked.

“We are also offering a reward for any information that leads to the positive identification or location and recovery of the trailer/equipment.”

The trailer is an Ifor Williams BV126. The mobile digiwall is a flat-packed, six-panel, moulded plastic climbing wall, with an electronic control board and associated support trusses.

They were taken from just outside Gloucester at around 10.15pm on July 28. Information on the theft can also be reported to Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 547 of July 28.

The £7 million climbing park is set to open on the former Bentham Country Club site in 2023.
