You simply can’t compare the games

-

CONTRARY to the letter unfairly comparing the “prima donnas” of the men’s Premier League with the women’s game (Letters, August 4), pay in the men’s game is entirely decided by their market value.

They are paid according to what the market considers their worth to be – the same as in any profession, such as actors etc.

The men’s game contributes, from the free market, around £600,000 a year to the ladies’ game.

Additionally the ladies’ game is in receipt of substantial funding from the National Lottery.

Whereas the men’s game, at club level, relies almost entirely upon market forces and that is why sadly we sometimes observe clubs in extreme financial trauma and bankruptcy.

As brilliant as the ladies are, you simply cannot compare the two – one is almost entirety market-led, whereas the other, at present, exists financially from public funds and the dedication of those involved.
