Police appeal to victim of late-night assault to come forward

A MAN was assaulted and stamped on in Cheltenham town centre in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

A CCTV operator in the police’s Force Control Room spotted that a man had been assaulted on the Promenade at around 3.40am. The footage showed another man stamping on the victim before fleeing the scene.

By the time officers arrived at the scene, near to Post Office Lane, the victim, believed to be in his 20s, had left the scene. The police are keen to identify the victim and check his welfare.

He is described as being white, approximat­ely 6ft tall and with short blonde hair. He was wearing a black top and trousers and was wearing a flower necklace.

A 19-year-old man, from Wiltshire, has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm. He has since been released under investigat­ion pending further inquiries.
