Benny and Miles fire the Phoenix

GLOUCESTER­SHIRE pair Benny Howell and Miles Hammond helped Birmingham Phoenix to three wins in the Hundred.

They beat Southern Brave by 53 runs with Howell taking 1-24 and Hammond left not out on one at the end of their 100 balls.

They then edged out Welsh Fire by four runs, Hammond making 17 off 19 balls before falling to county colleague David Payne.

Howell, pictured, made 21 not out off 11 balls, while Payne ended with 2-12 and Howell took 1-12 as Fire finished short of victory,

Howell then removed another county teammate, Ian Cockbain, for six as Phoenix beat Trent Rockets by six wickets.

Howell ended with 3-28 then Hammond hit 20 to help Phoenix home.

Cockbain did help the Rockets to beat Manchester Originals by eight wickets as he hit 20 not out in a match-winning stand with England’s Dawid Malan.

In the women’s competitio­n, Dumbleton’s Dani Gibson has suffered two first-ball dismissals for London Spirit in defeats by Southern Brave and Northern Supercharg­ers.

They lost by six wickets to Brave, Gibson taking 2-27, the wickets of India opener Smriti Mandhana and Brave skipper Georgia Adams

But Gibson was wicketless in her 15 balls against Supercharg­ers as Spirit lost by five runs.
