Double double Braces for Watts and Jeremiah seal Cleeve’s win

-

TWO goals apiece from Jack Watts and debutant Joe Jeremiah gave Bishop’s Cleeve a 4-2 Southern League Division One South win over Larkhall at Kayte Lane on Tuesday night.

In a frantic opening Larkhall took the lead when their debutant Sam Boulton headed home unmarked from a corner.

Straight from the restart Blaine Waugh burst down the right to set up Watts to equalise.

Larkhall retook the lead just after the quarter hour when an under-hit backpass to goalkeeper Lewis Clayton allowed Shea Bennington-mannings to round the stranded goalkeeper for an easy finish.

Cleeve equalised in the 37th minute when George Box saw a couple of efforts blocked, the second rebounding to Jeremiah, who found the net.

Just after the hour mark Cleeve led for the first time with Jeremiah taking aim from outside the box and his shot, with the aid of a heavy deflection, nestled into the bottom corner.

The Mitres sealed the win with the best goal of the game as a Joe Selman cross was flicked over the ‘keeper’s head on the turn by Watts.

Cleeve had manager Paul Collicutt and substitute Kai Newman sent off as they opened with a 2-1 defeat at AFC Totton on Saturday.

Cleeve took the lead when George Box’s fierce effort was parried by Lewis Noice but Jack Watts slid in to covert the rebound.

Nine minutes later, Totton were level through Jireh Oyebamiji and the winner came when Taylor’s cross to the far post was headed in by Scott Rendell.

Collicutt was sent off after 68 minutes for dissent and Newman followed with 13 minutes to go.

Evesham United also got off the mark on Tuesday with a 2-0 win at newlypromoted Westbury United.

Two goals in three second-half minutes through Adam Mace and Owen James sealed the win for Mike Ford’s side, who had began their season on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to Frome Town at Badgers Hill as a winner from George Rigg in the 90th minute sealed their fate.

In Division One Central, Cirencester Town led through Jake Lee’s 29th minute goal, but went down 2-1 to Thame United.

David Pearce struck a sublime shot into the top right corner to level and a swift counter attack saw Adam Smith chase a long clearance before cutting inside to rifle the ball past Alex Harris.

Cirencester Town came away with a 0-0 draw from their opening game at Biggleswade Town on Saturday.

Cirencester did get the ball in the net but it was ruled offside, but were unable to break through a stubborn defence despite a couple of goalmouth scrambles and, in the final minutes, a doubleblock to deny Levi Irving.
