PLAYFUL pooches and cuddly canines were warmly welcomed by residents at Wentworth Court nursing home in Cheltenham to celebrate International Dog Day.

Care and support staff working at the 64-bed specialist dementia home on Village Road brought their pups to meet residents, who loved making new furry friends.

Wellbeing team leader, Ben Pargeter, said, “Many of our residents are animal lovers who have happy memories of family pets. Meeting the team’s dogs has been a joyful experience, stimulating conversations and triggering positive memories.

“The simple act of stroking or cuddling a dog is also calming and highly therapeutic. The dogs were happy, too, with all the extra attention and treats.”

International Dog Day falls on August 26 each year and celebrates the important role that dogs can play in our lives and raises awareness of the number of dogs living in shelters seeking loving homes.
