Drivers warned to give extra time as bridge repair work planned

DRIVERS are being warned to allow extra time for journeys ahead of bridge repairs on the A419 near Swindon.

A section of the road will be closed at the A420 White Hart Junction over the weekends of September 2-5 and 16-19.

The scheme involves replacing and repairing bridge parapets and to enable the structural repairs. National Highways is advising motorists to plan in advance ahead of the closures.

The southbound carriagewa­y will be closed between 8pm on Friday, September 2 to 6am on Monday, September 5. The northbound carriagewa­y will be closed from 8pm on Friday, September 16 to 6am on Monday, September 19.

A diversion route will be in place, taking drivers off the A419 and back on via the exit and entry slip roads. The closure will be signposted on the M4 and M5 and along the A419 and A417 dual carriagewa­ys.

The work will also involve a week of overnight southbound closures from Monday, September 5 to Saturday, September 10, from 8pm to 6am. There will be overnight northbound closures between Monday, September 19 and Saturday, September 24 - also from 8pm to 6am.
