Morris and Kennedy head the 5K finishers

ALMOST Athletes were well represente­d at Gloucester AC’S 5k race last weekend. Peter Morris was the first club member across the line in 21:00, with Mike Kennedy hot on his heels in 21:02.

There were followed by Ian Poole (21:22), Neil Tring (22:07), Allan Green (23:12) and Daniel Magovern (24:13).

Victoria Kennedy and Claire Hawes both achieved top five category placements in 6:15 and 31:07 respective­ly.

Phil Jeyes swapped running shoes for a wetsuit, taking part in the Lake 62 Marathon Swim Event at Ashton Keynes.

He completed the gruelling 10k distance in four hours.

Meanwhile, on land, Allan Green ran the Two Tunnels Marathon in Bath in a time of 5:21, placing him first in his age category.

There were special milestones for a couple of club members running other distances at the Two Tunnels.

Ingrid Harris ran her 100th half marathon in a time of 2:01:41, an incredible achievemen­t which is all the more impressive when placed alongside her many successes at other distances.

Zakia Hussain ran the 10k distance in 1:17:10, a feat to be proud of after recent health setbacks.

She was joined at that distance by Jason Hulance, who completed the course in 57:36.

Adrian Courtney took a trip to Buscot Park and ran the 10k in 71 minutes.

David Chittock completed the challengin­g and hilly Godolphin 10k in 1:00:12.

As ever, club members were out in force for parkrun on Saturday morning. Peter Mitchener was run director at Cheltenham, where Joshua Hand was the first club finisher in 19:26.

Over in the Forest of Dean Jo Foster was in the top 10 female finishers in 27:48, while Neil Tring (25:01) and Lorraine Taylor (32:06) ran the Hampstead Heath course.

Mike Kennedy was the first AA to finish at Gloucester North in 23:01, where Kate Nichol

was the fifth placed female finisher in 27:32.

» BOURTON Roadrunner­s fielded five members for the Haresfield 5k road race, near Stroud.

This event, which forms part of the Gloucester­shire Road Race Series and the County Championsh­ips, was held in almost perfect conditions and first to finish for the club was Darren Long, who was slightly disappoint­ed with his time of 19:03, but was rewarded with second MV50 and awarded a silver county medal.

In-form Maxine Emes was next to finish in a time of 21:51, third LV40 and receiving a bronze county medal.

Liz Hulcup had her best 5k run since 2015, finishing in 24:57, first LV65 and winning the gold county medal, with Tony Goodwill close on her heels in 25:07, while Gill Carrick completed the quintet in 27:03, fourth in her age group in 27:03.

Club chairman Chris Dry, a former triathlete, made a return to a swimming event at South Cerney, with the Cotswold Lake 62 Swim, opting for the 10k Olympic distance and completing the distance in 3:37.52.

Susan Hunt ran in the Stratford Summer 6, having also achieved a PB at the Cirenceste­r parkrun that morning, and finished second LV55 in a swift time of 48:03.
