Boorman gets call-up from England U19s

-

DUMBLETON CC and Gloucestershire academy player Tommy Boorman was called up to the England Under-19s Test squad for the first of two matches against Sri Lanka.

The exciting right-hand top order batter missed out on the XI for the first game at Chelmsford, but that call was a reward for displaying consistent good form for the Gloucestershire Under-18s this season.

Boorman, 17, has starred in 14 matches and has scored 725 runs at an average of 51.79 in 2022 so far. His best performance with the bat came last month when he scored 135 versus Sussex in a 50-over match.

He has hit two centuries and four fifties for the Under-18s, with his form earning him four call-ups to the Gloucestershire second XI.

In his most recent outing for the Second XI against Essex in Colchester, Boorman hit an excellent 86 off 129 balls as the Shire claimed victory by an innings and 95 runs.

Tim Hancock, head of talent pathway at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “I am very pleased for Tommy, he is a really impressive young player who has batted superbly this season.

“He has been scoring runs for club and county since he was an Under-10 and I am sure he will rise to the challenges offered to him in the coming weeks.”

Boorman will be hoping to get his opportunity to shine in the second Test, which starts in Derby on Sunday.
