Fine for motorists if they are caught using bus lane

-

MOTORISTS using a bus lane in Cheltenham when they should not will soon be fined.

Gloucestershire County Council has installed a camera on the A40 Lansdown Road, between the Texaco garage at Westall Green and Montpellier.

The straight section of road has a bus lane that should not be used by cars, other than taxis, between 7am and 7pm from Monday to Saturday.

Now the council is getting tough on enforcing the rule. Jason Humm, its director of transport and highways, said: “We are introducing a bus lane enforcement camera on the A40 east, between Westall Green and Montpellier, which will be going live on September 5.

“It aims to deter motorists from driving in bus lanes to help improve bus journey times and encourage use of public transport. “Warning notices will be issued to motorists for two weeks after the camera goes live to make them aware that the bus lane is now being enforced. “However, anyone flouting the bus lane restrictions from September 19 will be fined £70, or £35 if it is paid within 21 days.”
