Robins boss hoping for two arrivals

-

» WADE Elliott is aiming to add two new faces to his squad ahead of the transfer deadline tonight (Thursday).

Elliott has made six permanent signings this summer - Shaun Macdonald (Torquay United), Ryan Jackson (Gillingham), Will Ferry (Southampton), Tom Bradbury (Halifax Town), Dan Adshead (Norwich City) and Christian Norton (Stoke City), alongside loans for Luke Southwood (Reading), Caleb Taylor (West Brom), James Taylor (Bristol City), Taylor Perry (Wolves) and Dan Nlundulu (Southampton).

“We are still looking for two if possible,” he said, and added that people do not have to leave for that to happen.

“Not necessarily, no,” he said. “We have scope to bring in two, I believe, and that’s not dependent on people leaving.

“We have had conversations with people and declared our interest, but we are after good players so I don’t think we’ll be the only club in for them.

“To be fair to Micky Moore and Tom Ware, they have taken the brunt of it and do a lot of the leg work.

“We talk about the type of player we are looking for, they’ll put a list together of what’s in our budget and attainable for us and then as a staff, we’ll go away and look at them and make a decision collectively on who we want to pursue.

“I am fortunate to have people well versed in dealing with transfer windows.

“We got the bulk of our work done early.

“Some clubs have waited to see what falls out, but we did most of our work early on.”

With injuries to Elliot Bonds and Liam Sercombe and Ellis Chapman now suspended for a game, midfield will be a priority area.

“We are looking for a midfielder anyway,” said Elliott.

“Ellis will be one game I would assume, Bondsy two or three weeks and Sercs probably a similar timeframe.

“We won’t sign a player for two or three weeks, we’ll sign the right player for the long term.”

Cheltenham have two players on loan, Max Harris at Westonsuper-mare and Callum Ebanks at Eastleigh.

Striker Ebanks netted his first goal for the Spitfires on Monday, scoring in the 3-1 televised National League defeat at Barnet soon after coming on as a substitute.
