Montell scores four as Abbeymead edge home in 12-goal thriller

MONTELL Smith scored four times as Abbeymead Rovers won an incredible Northern Senior League, Division One game, beating Cheltenham Athletic 7-5.

Gareth Davies with two and Ethan Powell scored their other goals, with Ryan Cleal (two), Ashley Cleal, Jake Berry and Aaron Wright replying.

At the top of the table five clubs have seven points with Longlevens Reserves top on goal difference after Billy Stokes, Jack Bonser and Fin Clift scored in their 3-0 win over Stonehouse Town Reserves.

Dursley Town are second after a 0-0 draw with Brockworth Albion, and Chalford are third as Nathan Buckland, George Parker and Luke Barstow scored in their 3-0 win at Bredon.

English Bicknor drop to fourth after Jamie Evans’ winner saw them lose 4-3 at Chalrton Rovers.

Tom Russell and a Dan Ledger double saw Rovers lad 3-1 before Bicknor levelled, Ryan Shemwell (two) and Dan Carnegie their scorers, but Evans decided the points.

Charfield, with Archie Bennett scoring, also have seven points after they drew 1-1 with Smiths Barometric­s for whom Callum Debonis replied.

Elliott Greening gave Woolaston a 1-0 win over FC Lakeside and a Sam Wines double saw Lydney Town Reserves beat Berkeley Town 2-1, Blaine Skuse replying.

Division Two is led by two promoted sides, Tredworth Tigers and Mushet & Coalway United.

Corey Hill, Tyler Hill, Brett James and David Rich helped Tigers edge out King’s Stanley 4-3, a Tyler Gingell double and Eoin Szwejkowsk­i replying.

Mushet also hit four, but without reply against Leonard Stanley, Scott Burrows with two alongside goals from Tom Knight and Dan Latham.

Tewkesbury Town are third after Scott Jordan (two), Ed Scarrott and Shea Danter saw them beat Viney St Swithins 4-0, and Cheltenham Civil Service Reseres were also 4-0 winners, at Bibury thanks to Josh Fivash (two), Joe Mccauley and Jamie Moore

Liam James’ goal gave Staunton & Corse a 1-0 win over Barnwood United and Matt Grindle, Sam Harris and Darren Weyman were on target for Harrow Hill as they beat Forest neighbours Broadwell Amateurs Reserves 3-1, Jamie Belfitt replying.
