Kear closes on title repeat
PRESTBURY rider Austen Kear is well placed to repeat last year’s victory in the British Historic Racing Vintage Club 250cc Championship after gaining points at Pembrey and Darley Moor.
At Pembrey, the competitors faced torrential wind and rain and Kear, on his Bultaco 250 cc Matrella, was sixth in front of larger capacity machines over the one-and-a-half-mile circuit, but more importantly he was first in the 250-cc class.
At Darley Moor in Derbyshire, in intense heat, Kear finished sixth, but first in his class, behind the Honda K4 350 cc of Jason Lamb from Cinderford and Joe Taylor from Somerset.
Lamb is contesting meetings with his 400 Yamaha and a Honda 350 K4 (Japanese solo up to 350 cc).
He is leading both classes at present but needs a good ride at Cadwell to secure the Championship.
He won four races at Darley Moor with his best time of 1:12.78 secs and a speed of 72.08 mph.
The final events of the year (Rounds 11 and 12) will be held at Cadwell Park later this month.
