Gr-eight haul Price propels side to first victory with career-best

-

TOM Price produced an inspired career-best performance to ease Gloucestershire to a threewicket triumph over Warwickshire in the Lv=county Championship First Division at Bristol.

The Academy product claimed 8-27 and match figures of 10-73 as Warwickshire were shot out for 128 in their second innings.

Set 148 to win, the home side recovered from 30-4 to reach their target in 48.2 overs, thanks to opener Chris Dent and skipper Graeme van Buuren, who scored 64 and 49 respectively and staged a match-winning stand of 97. It was their first red ball win this season.

Warwickshire resumed their second innings on 58-5, a lead of 77.

Still on a roll after taking four quick wickets the previous evening, Price accounted for Jacob Bethell, who directed a thickish edge to Dent at third man, and struck again as Danny Briggs’ middle stump went cartwheeling.

Alex Davies and Henry Brookes staged a partnership of 43 and Davies had reached 60 when slow left armer Zafar Gohar trapped him lbw.

Price returned to have Brookes caught at the wicket for 32 and finished the job in style, dismissing Ryan Sidebottom lbw.

In the chase, Oliver Hannon-dalby had Ben Charlesworth caught at second slip and Olly Price fell in near identical fashion, held at first slip.

Miles Hammond and James Bracey were dismissed for ducks by Jayant Yadav and Briggs to make it 30-4.

Van Buuren made 49 before falling to Yadav, who then removed Jack Taylor and Dent to finish with 4-47, but Zafar and Tom Price held their nerve.
