Check where your waste is going, public urged

-

THERE have been more incidents of flytipping this year with asbestos and builders’ waste getting illegally dumped by dodgy waste firms.

Now civic chiefs in the Cotswolds are urging people to check how their waste is being disposed saying they could be at risk of a fine.

The warning comes following incidents of illegal dumping of builders’ waste - including materials such as asbestos and concrete, as well as fixtures and fittings - centred around Cirencester and Siddington.

Between April and September, the council has recorded 531 incidents of flytipping across the district; an increase of 15 per cent on the same period in 2021-22.

Incidents of dumping construction and demolition waste have risen by almost half during the last six months, with 33 incidents reported.

People who pay a business to get rid of their waste could risk a £400 fine if they don’t check beforehand what will happen to their waste.

The public can check whether a person or company is allowed to carry waste by contacting the Environment Agency on: 03708 506 506

Anyone witnessing fly-tipping or who finds dumped rubbish should not touch the items, but should report it online or call 01285 623000 during office opening hours.
