Mercedes-benz’s latest GLC SUV has gone on sale in the UK, starting at £51,855 for the entry-level GLC 220d AMG Line.

I used to pride myself on being able to guess the price of a new car within £750, but these days I’m struggling because prices seem to be rising at such a rate.

I’d never have guessed, for example, that the plug-in hybrid version of this car would cost £72,210. Mind you, Merc inserted a typo into the press release that said this GLC 300 e 4MATIC had a system power output of 750bhp – which would be a lot of power for the money.

The correct figure is 328bhp. Interestingly, Mercedes offers a diesel PHEV as well as the petrol and that’s rare these days.
