Stirring fightback as Bream keep up their 100 per cent record

-

A SUPERB second-half comeback saw Bream preserve their 100 per cent start to the Counties 2 Gloucestershire South season with a 38-35 win at Whitehall.

The Forest side trailed 28-5 at the break but hit back to sit a point off leaders Clifton II - who they face this weekend - at the top of the table after five straight wins.

Man-of-the-match Harry Davies led the way with two tries, Zac Peacey, Zac Hancock, James Cooper and Jayden Hardy also scoring.

Hardy converted four tries with Ben Alexander and Jamie Mee making fine debuts.

Ross-on-wye scored a second successive Counties 2 Gloucestershire North win, edging out Cirencester 22-16 as Louis Morgan, Casey Morgan and Josh Element scored their tries, Thai Hayward kicking two conversions and a penalty.

Jake Milliner replied with the Cirencester try, Will Lowe converting it and adding three penalties as they took a losing bonus point.

Cheltenham North went down 47-18 to Midsomer Norton in Counties 1 Western North as the visitors took control in the second half.

North welcomed back hooker Nathan Wakefield and centre Aku Kuroitamana to the side and started the brighter, dominated territory.

With their scrum well on top, they forced Norton into conceeding several early penalties one of which was converted by Jade Latola for a 3-0 lead.

A loose pass was intercepted and gifted Norton an easy seven points, but North hit back as Owen Quigley and fellow backrower Atama Susu both went over, but both conversions were missed as North led 13-7.

North lost skipper Clive Piff to a serious knock to the head and Norton raised their game and scored two quick tries, both converted, to lead 21-13.

Replacement James Harden then went over to put North right back in it, but again the conversion went wide as Norton led 21-18 at half-time.

Norton were out quickest in the second half, scoring their bonus point try for a 28-18 lead.

North were chasing the game and as much as they huffed and puffed they were not able to trouble the scoreboard as Norton ran in a further three tries, two of which were converted by their excellent kicker. Bredon Star edged out Matson II with a 25-24 win in Counties 3 Gloucestershire North.

Matson outscored their hosts 4-3 on tries, but 10 points from the boot of Matt Alonso were decisive as he kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Matt Peters, George Chandler and George Elliott went over for Bredon, with Alfie Williams, Tom Collier, Connor Gwilliam and Ryan Pockett helping Matson come away with two points, Vince Lanciano adding two conversions.

Cheltenham Civil Service conceded their game to Widden Old Boys, while in Counties 4 Gloucestershire North, Old Cryptians II had a walkover against Old Patesians II.
