Who are these railings trying to keep out?

✒ TONY Pride (Letters, October 13) praises the railings at Imperial Square.

I do not. They interrupt the view into the green and floral area, and are ugly and forbidding.

Who are they meant to keep out and why?

No one alive remembers the original railings (nor the Crimea cannon) so why put these monstrous barriers in place?

They also limit the routes in and out of a public area and perhaps one day a mugging victim will be trapped by them with no escape from an attacker.

No more please, Leave the space open and accessible
