Bowls club’s win is given civic reception by mayor
CHELTENHAM Bowling Club’s feat in winning the ‘FA Cup of Bowls’ was acknowledged with a civic reception in the Mayor’s Parlour last Friday.
The Mayor, Sandra Holliday, said that the club’s success in beating a field of 630 clubs to win bowling’s top prize deserved recognition.
The club’s vice president Allen Brookes, responded that this was not only a great achievement for the club and the town but also good for promoting bowls across the county and raising our standing within the national arena.
He went on to say that it was particularly pleasing that the team spanned an age range 15 to 50 which demonstrated that bowls was a sport for all and was no longer regarded as an older persons game.
The team will formally receive the Top Club trophy at the Bowls England dinner in Coventry next month.
