Tewkesbury’s rock ’n’ roll Christmas cracker

-

VETERAN Tewkesbury musician Richard Baldwin is putting on a very special Christmas gig at the Watson Hall in Tewkesbury next month.

Local ska-punk legends Spunge will be headlining their first home town gig in six years – on December 16 – and it is sure to sell out.

Spunge have been gigging and recording for 25 years and have built up a big following around the world, playing with many supergroups of the genre along the way.

Support comes from Cheltenham’s finest ska-punk band 4ft Fingers and another local band, Johnny Clash – a rock and roll outfit based in the town.

After playing in many Gloucestershire bands for four decades, Rich wanted to try his hand at gig promotion and has put together this stellar lineup.

The Watson Hall is close to his heart, having attended his first-ever punk gig there way back in 1980, when the Screaming Dead, from Cheltenham, headlined with Tewkesbury’s original punk band, The Lids, in support.

This led to a lifelong passion for live music and saw him playing bass guitar in various local groups.

Rich is currently the bass player for Johnny Clash – a band he formed just over a year ago with experienced local musicians.

The band play a mix of classic rock and roll, surf music and glam rock with a punk edge.

They recently played at Lakefest’s tenth anniversary event.

It promises to be a night to remember and tickets are selling fast. They are available from tewkesburytowncouncil.gov.uk for £15 and there will be some available on the night.
