Former skipper Delve named as Gloucester’s new academy manager

» FORMER Gloucester and Wales back row Gareth Delve is Gloucester’s new academy manager.

Delve joined the club in 2007 from West Country rivals Bath, and captained the club in 2009, making 56 appearance­s for the Cherry and Whites, before heading to play for Melbourne Rebels in the Super Rugby competitio­n.

He was capped 11 times for Wales between 2006 and 2010, and as well as tasting the Super Rugby with Melbourne Rebels, Delve also experience­d life in Japan playing for NEC Green Rockets.

Since retirement, Delve, left, took his first steps into coaching as team manager of Bristol in 2017 and has been working as an assistant coach at Thornbury.

Director of Academy & Developmen­t Carl Hogg said: “Gareth is a fantastic addition to the club. He epitomises all the values of our club, he’s passionate, humble, and hard working. He will be a tremendous role model for our young academy players.

“He’s a great leader and communicat­or, and we know he will build positive relationsh­ip with schools and clubs within our region to ensure the best possible pathway for young players.

“Gareth will help develop a culture within the academy that will produce players with character and ability to proudly continue the great traditions of this historic club.”
