Leading pair keep up the pace at top with big wins

LEADERS Cinderford II continued their good run of form in Counties 1 Western North, scoring eight tries as they defeated Cheltenham North 54-7.

Will Haly bagged a hat-trick, with Henry Pearson two, Joe Smart, George Angell and Joe Langbridge also going over.

Langbridge landed seven conversion­s, while James Harden scored North’s try, converted by Jade Latola

Longlevens stay on their heels with a 75-14 win at Avonmouth Old Boys.

Jed Holman-jones, Mike Yorke and Jake Fox scored converted tries to make it 21-0 before Avonmouth got on the board.

Steve Philips and Jack Beck scored to make it 35-7, then Harvey Walsingham completed the first-half scoring.

Tom Griffiths and Henry York were next to go over, making it 54-7.

Griffiths was on the scoresheet again before Beck got his second, then after Avonmouth got a penalty try, the final score of the day went to Walsingham, Brad Wilkins only missing one of his 11 conversion attempts.

Lydney led 15-3 at Brixham before they went down to a 20-15 Regional 1 South West defeat.

Brixham led with a Mitch Pinkus penalty before Jordan Fowke managed to squeeze through a tackle to score a try.

A Brad Barnes penalty extended the lead to 8-3, then Sami Hamid touched down for a debut try, Barnes adding the extras for a 15-3 lead.

Jordan Watson scored for Brixham following a missed tackle and Pinkus added the conversion to make it 15-10 at half-time.

The hosts were out of the blocks at the restart and scored almost immediatel­y when Nathan Reeves crossed, Pinkus again converting.

A Pinkus penalty extended the lead to 20-15 with 30 minutes left and the Severnside­rs ended with just a bonus point.

Drybrook lost 24-21 at Westonsupe­r-mare but put in a performanc­e which could have gained all four points - but they had to be content with a losing bonus point.

An infringeme­nt from the home team saw the visitors taking an early lead through Tom Treherne’s penalty but a show and go by Weston fly half James Mackay put hooker Josh Mynett over to make Mackay’s conversion a straightfo­rward one.

Drybrook hit back on the 28-minute mark. A penalty conceded by Weston led to Drybrook taking the initiative and Ben Large broke through for a try converted by Treherne.

Two more penalties were added by Treherne to give the Forest team a deserved 16-7 half-time lead.

Weston were able to go over for a try as Mackay threw a big pass to his winger who got over in the corner. Mackay kicked the conversion to leave

Weston trailing 16-14.

Drybrook were then dealt a double blow as first they were penalised for a tip tackle and lost their centre to the bin, costing three points from a Mackay penalty.

Weston then scored a converted try through their centre, following up on a Mackay chip, to go eight points clear with 10 minutes to play.

Back came Drybrook and Large chipped through for Luke Roberts to gather and score in the corner but they could not add to their tally.

Alex Cox scored Old Centralian­s’ only try in their 40-10 defeat to leaders Camborne, Harry Preece adding a conversion and a penalty

Stow-on-the-wold ended their run of defeats by winning 55-5 at Buckingham in Regional 2 South Central.

Will Marks scored the firt try, converted by Oli Clements, before Buckingham got what was to be their only score with a try.

From here on in, the Unicorns took control, scoring a further three tries in the half through Gus Hayward, Oscar Organ and Sam Johnson, two being converted by Clements.

In the second half, the Corns went on to score five more tries in the second half from Andrew Piercey, converted by Clements, Johnson’s second, Sean Thomson, converted by Clements, Jamie Gibbs and another for Thomson, with Clements again adding the extras.

Matson stay top of Regional 2 Severn with a perfect record after beating local rivals Chosen Hill Former Pupils 26-3.

Harry Matthews’ penalty put Chosen in front, but Jack Knight and Josh Locke were among the try scorers as Matson came back to win.

Newent went down 17-12 at Chippenham, Tom Webb kicking four penalties, while Cheltenham were 35-17 winners over Frome.

Counties 2 Gloucester­shire North leaders Gordon League won 36-15 at Coney Hill, Luke Mcmahon and Ashley Kocheran scoring two tries apiece and Ban Gamsten one, Mcmahon adding four conversion­s and a penalty.

Tom Anderson and Joe Porter scored a try apiece for Coney Hill, Carl Fritchley adding a conversion and a penalty.

Smiths Rugby were 64-0 winners over Ross-on-wye, running in 10 tries with two apiece for Duncan Spurrier, Ben Hawker, Pete Reed and Ben Sheldrake, plus one for Sam Wilson and Olly Bennett, Marcus Raymond adding six conversion­s.

After falling behind to a try for Old Centralian­s II, Old Cryptians hit back to win 36-5 with tries for Sean Gardner, James Allen, Owen Notley, Zane Felix, Cam Findley and Joe Kourtis, with Tom Rees converting two and Findlay one.

Brockworth beat Old Richians 43-11, with first-half tries scored by Zac Morris, Kurtis Herbert and Tommy Lyons all converted by Herbert, and secondhalf scores from James Dunn, Aaron Morris, Sam Birch and Chris Humphrey

with Herbert converting one.

Nicky Godsell scored Richians’ try, Adam Wallace kicking two penalties.

Cirenceste­r’s Jack Thorn kicked two penalties in their 6-0 win over Hucclecote, while Ashley Lewis scored all the points for Spartans in their 17-12 win over Cheltenham Saracens, with two tries, two conversion­s and a penalty.

Chris Wilkinson and Ed Hampshire scored Sarries’ tries, Fred Griffin converting one.

Shaun Hobbs scored a try hat-trick as Bream beat Frampton Cotterell 24-15 in Counties 2 Gloucester­shire South. Elliott Teague scored the other try with Jayden Hardy adding two penalties.

Josh Bailey also grabbed a try treble as Dursley won 26-5 at Lydney II, Scott Udal scoring the other try while Charlie Davison converted three.

Jamie Daunter scored Drybrook II’S try as they lost 26-10 at St Mary’s Old Boys, Andy Milner adding a penalty and a conversion, and Berry Hill lost 47-15 to Old Elizabetha­ns, Joe Lewis, and Jake Powles and Jake Ashley kicking a penalty.

The anticipate­d Counties 3 Gloucester­shire North top of the table clash proved something of anti-climax with an injury weakened Patesians squad brushing aside Gloucester Old Boys 17-0 at Everest Road.

With the wind and slope in their favour, the Gloucester side enjoyed 80 per cent territory and possession throughout the first half but could not breach a solid Patesians defence.

After sustaining 30 minutes of pressure, Pats’ clinical finishing opened the scores in their first venture into the opposition half with Kieran Dillion finishing off a fine move from a set piece for an unconverte­d try.

Pats pinned the Old Boys in their 22 for much of the second half with George Warley, Matt Parker, Jack Donaldson and Kieran Dillon showing flair with desperate defence from the visitors keeping them out.

From a scrum 20 metres out Pats’ number 8 Charlie Maker drove to the line before finding playercoac­h Ben Smith to dab down in the corner making it 10-0.

From a rolling maul on the visitors 22, prop Joe Hart saw a gap in midfield, breaking two tackles for a fine individual try converted by Jack Donaldson.

Pats camped in the Gloucester side’s 22 for the remainder of the match chasing the bonus point but it wasn’t to be.

Stroud top the table after Sam Hester’s hattrick helped them to a 32-17 win at Bredon Star.

Star led with a penalty before two Hester tries, a conversion and a penalty made it 15-3, before Ben Wilkes and Joe Ashenford added tries, the latter converted by Hester,.

Two converted Bredon scores then sandwiched Hester’s third try as Stroud took the win.

Fairford came from 12-10 down to beat Minchinham­pton 34-12.

A Harri Cummings penalty was followed by a Paulo Allen try, converted by Cummings, before Minch hit back with a Joe Medd-finn try converted by Ben Pope, and then led 12-10 early in the second half with Ben Jones’ try.

But Keelan Little’s try for Fairford was converted by Cummings, who added a penalty to make it 20-12, before Richie Craig’s try, converted by Cummings, and a penalty try sealed the win and the bonus point.

Widden Old Boys were 46-17 winners over Tewkesbury, for whom Brendan Llewelyn scored two tries, with James Watkins kicking two conversion­s and a penalty.

In Counties 4 Gloucester­shire North, Cinderford III got back to winning ways with a 28-12 victory over Painswick.

Dan Trigg, Dan Parry, Joe Freeman and Robbie Winman scored their tries, with Freeman kicking one conversion and two penalties.

Painswick replied with tries for Liam Littleton and Sam Colliver, one converted by Dom Barnard.

Old Cryptians II came from 18-5 down to win 26-25 at Newent II.

Newent won a penalty after 10 minutes which Sam Jackson kicked, then Jack Carpenter crossed for an unconverte­d try.

Cryptians scored an unconverte­d try but Newent led 8-5 at half-time, and the second half opened with Carpenter scoring an individual try in the corner before Taylor Smith sprinted 40 metres to score his debut try for the club.

Newent had an 18-5 advantage but Cryptians scored after a charge down which bounced convenient­ly for a player to score and convert.

Minutes later they got another try as Howells received a yellow card, the conversion making it 19-18.

Crypts scored another converted try before Ted Heron forced himself over, Josh Jensen converting but Crypts hung on for the win.
