Pub closed until next month for renovation

AN established pub has closed for what its bosses say will be a major refurbishment.

The Hatherley, which is in Hatherley Road and close to Lakeside Primary School, has the builders in at the site.

It is expected to reopen on December 13 after renovation work. A new kitchen and a playground in the back garden are expected to be some of the changes at the pub, which is run by the Greene King national chain.

Monika Bodo, the pub’s general manager, said: “The Hatherley is a popular local for many and we’re excited to have temporarily closed the pub for this major refurbishment, allowing us to reopen just in time for the festive period.

“Our new surroundings will feature lots of new exciting benefits such as an improved outside area, which families can enjoy all year round, as well as lots of exciting events including our weekly quiz night.

“We can’t wait to welcome people back when we reopen next month.”

Greene King said the revamp would cost a six-figure sum.

It said it would reveal more about the changes next month.

The pub dates back to the late 19th century and it was previously called the Hatherley Inn and Three Crowns.
