Bid for ‘inverted’home to help with family situation
AN ‘inverted’ three-bedroom home could be built in the Lansdown area of Cheltenham.
It would be built on the corner of Lansdown Walk and Lansdown Place Lane if a planning application to Cheltenham Borough Council is approved.
The proposed two-storey redbrick development is to the rear of 15, Lansdown Place which is a Grade-ii listed building. The proposed development is described as being similar in scale and character to several of the other mews houses in the area.
The proposed scheme has inverted the internal accommodation with bedrooms on the ground foor and kitchen, dining and living spaces on the first foor, a design and access statement from Vision Mill Architects says. It is described as being similar in scale and character to the mews house opposite on Lansdown Place Lane.
It adds: “The proposed development is to have a contemporary feel in detail and design that mirrors the more traditional proportions and character of the surrounding dwellings.” The proposed site is in the Lansdown Character Area which is part of Cheltenham’s Central Conservation Area.
A previous application for a two-storey detached dwelling had been approved back in May 2017, but this permission lapsed in May 2020. The application for the latest development said it would help with the requirement for more housing within the borough.
Further documents within the application, which is available to view on the council’s planning portal, says: “The proposed development is intended for use by the applicant’s daughter enabling her to live locally and cut down on long commutes for both work and family life.”
