Good luck to Nicky in parking fight

- Toby Rolt

NICKY Dunn is right to refuse to pay the fine issued to her for not being able to pay for parking at Crickley Hill (Echo, November 3, p16).

All any motorist is required to do is, be willing and able to pay. The machines are a convenience to the collector not to the payer.

Anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes in the Cheltenham area knows that rural Mexico or Southern Sudan have better internet, wi-fi and phone signals. It’s an embarrassment.

I’m new to the county. I’m gobsmacked at how unfit for purpose everything to do with highway, traffic flow, parking, signage - even painted markings that contradict each other - is.

What gifted sales agent got Gloucestershire to buy any of these machines? They don’t work in many of the locations where they are installed.

The remarks made by, in this case,

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, is the type of ill-considered responsibilityshifting response we’re used to.

I bet Nicky Dunn has many more important things to do with her time, brain and life than to concern herself with helping the Ringgo company do the job they are contracted for.

Would Ringgo pay the invoice that Nicky Dunn should send them for the time and inconvenience they have caused her? Of course not.

It is the job and the business of Ringgo to collect the fee. If they fail to find a way to accept the £2 Nicky Dunn is happy to pay them, they should pay the Trust on her behalf. (As to the fine being upheld - that’s a rage to be unleashed another day).

It is not up to Nicky Dunn to stress herself out by chasing carpark fee collectors. Nicky Dunn I wish you well.
