Coffee chain eyes up a second location in town

-

ANOTHER coffee shop could be opening in Cheltenham.

Coffee#1 has put in an application to the borough council to turn the former Flight Centre travel agents at 124 High Street into a cafe. The premises is currently empty and the application says it would support the vitality and viability of the town centre.

This would be the second Coffee#1, as there is already a branch in Montpellier Gardens.

The application said: “It will complement the wider retail provision with this part of the centre and will reuse a currently vacant unit.

“It is felt that the nature of the Coffee#1 operation will support the vitality and viability of the centre. Indeed, evidence from existing Coffee#1 stores in similar locations would suggest there is likely to be an increase in footfall and an extension in the length of stay in the centre by customers.”

The application says the new coffee shop would have seating areas inside and outside – the outside area will need a separate pavement licence.

In a letter sent to the council, Planning Potential, acting as agents for the coffee chain, said Coffee#1 also has stores in Gloucester, Bristol and Stroud. It added: “The company prides itself on the excellence of its coffee and the high quality and careful design of its stores.”
