O’sullivan makes move to PREMA team for 2023

-

» WILLIAMS Racing Academy driver Zak O’sullivan will compete in FIA Formula 3 next year with the 2022 team champions PREMA Racing.

The 17-year-old has just completed an impressive rookie year in the series, achieving two podiums and a pole position.

O’sullivan’s junior career saw him win the 2021 GB3 Championship before going on to be awarded the Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year accolade.

Williams Racing, who were among many others to detect his raw talent, selected the GB3 Champion as a member of their Driver Academy earlier this year.

This past season saw him step up to FIA Formula 3 with Carlin Racing, where the Cheltenhambased racer achieved multiple podiums and out-scored his teammates.

He has completed three days of running with PREMA at the FIA F3 post-season test, consistently finishing towards the top of the timings.

PREMA are the most decorated FIA Formula 3 team in the championship’s history, with three out of the four team titles and three out of four drivers’ titles under their belt.

They have an impressive list of alumni, including F 1 stars Charles Leclerc and Mick Schumacher and soon-to-be F1 driver Oscar Piastri.

O’sullivan said: “I am really excited to be joining PREMA. It will be a new environment for me, but PREMA’S history says all we need to know so I’m confident we can have a good year together.

“The first impressions from testing were good, and the pace was pretty strong.

“I was still learning the car as there are a few differences, and I focused on getting to know all the team and the engineers,”

PREMA team principal Rene Rosin said: “We are impressed by what he achieved in his maiden FIA F3 season and his career so far.

“He will bring in his experience, and he already did an outstanding job in post-season testing.

“That will boost our preparations for 2023, and we are confident we will see Zak thrive in our environment.“
