Nelson completes the alphabet challenge with Isabel Trail run

ALMOST Athletes were out in force as usual at various parkruns, up and down the country.

Some standout performanc­es included Dave Chittock who finished first in his age category at Aberstwyth, while Peter Mitchener finished second in his category at Cheltenham, and Robert Foord took a 37 seconds off his course personal best, also at Pittville Park.

Almost Athletes were also represente­d at Kingsway, Cannon Hill, Gloucester City, Krakow, and Stratford-upon-avon to name a few.

Dave Nelson ran at the Isabel Trail parkrun and has subsequent­ly completed the parkrun alphabet challenge.

This challenge sees runners complete at least one parkrun beginning with each letter in the alphabet, a massive challenge, which has seen Nelson clock up some impressive tourism across Europe.

Five Almosts travelled to Wiltshire to participat­e in the 10th Avon Valley Runners Half Marathon.

First home for the purples was Dave Mcgrath in 1:37:37, closely followed by Mike Kennedy (1:40:10) and Steve Phelps (1:44:15).

Steve Taylor completed the 13.1 miles in 1:56:14 and Vicky Kennedy in 2:03:14.

Shaun Carr celebrated his birthday by completing the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 10km in 56:38 (a 10km race which turned into a longer distance).

Clive Baker completed the Brent Knoll race in Burnham-on-sea, along footpaths, bridleways and country roads to the summit of Brent Knoll, just under six miles in total.

Half a dozen Almosts raced the Croome Capability Canter race, braving the wet and muddy conditions.

First Almost home was Neil Tring in 52:17, followed by Steve Wallbridge (56:54) and Sarah Wallbridge (59:51).

Also running was Kim Lewington (1:07:15), Jason Hulance (1:07:54) and Sheila Chatterley (1:08:39).

Continuing on his epic marathon quest, Allan Green completed the Hare and Tortoise Marathon in 5:52:00.
