Hope that development could be blueprint for other locations

- Councillor Mike Collins Cabinet Member for Cyber, Regeneration and Commercial Income

I AM often asked what Social Value benefits the Golden Valley Development will bring to Cheltenham and the surrounding area. You could ask a different question. What will the GVD do for me and my community?

I am deeply committed to the growth and sustainable development of Cheltenham. I am thrilled about the promise held by the project’s initiative. This is the biggest single and most ambitious project ever undertaken by Cheltenham borough council, which will be delivered in partnership with the Council’s development partner HBD. It offers an opportunity to significantly enhance our local economy and community. It will position Cheltenham not only as a leader in cybersecurity and other cyber related industries, through collaboration with the existing cyber ecosystem and government bodies, but also for expanding technological innovation. It will also foster social and environmental responsibility, which is essential for our town, from my point of view.

Together we will ensure that Golden Valley is designed to harness Cheltenham’s existing strengths in the cyber and tech sectors, stimulating economic growth, employment, and enhancing our educational landscape. The project will cultivate community values by supporting local enterprises, encouraging new business ventures, ensuring opportunities that will benefit us all.

The environmental impact of the project is central to our vision for Golden Valley. It will include significant green spaces, promote alternatives to car travel and provide high standards of energy efficiency. This is in line with our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, benefitting not only current residents of our town but future generations too.

The GVD represents a unique opportunity to harmonise economic advancement with social value and environmental sustainability. It embodies our shared vision for a Cheltenham that thrives economically while remaining a tight-knit, inclusive community committed to green practices.

Perhaps, one day this vision could be used as a blueprint by other towns, cities and communities around the world.

In essence the GVD will bring thousands of new jobs and homes to Cheltenham in a sustainable and responsible way, benefitting not only our economy and climate but everyone who lives in our wonderful town.
