It’s time to focus on the future rather than looking back

-

I AM not sure that Martyn Cambridge’s assertion (letters, February 29) that Labour PM Tony Blair was responsible for increasing doctor’s pay and reducing their hours is true or not (this wouldn’t be a bad idea now possibly) but I am quite sure this Tory government alone is responsible for running down the NHS since 2010.

We can all see the consequences of that now in hospitals and GP surgeries across the country.

It is easy to criticise in hindsight problems faced by Labour in the 1990s and beyond but that’s in the past so let’s focus on the future for all our sakes - especially so when we are in a cost of living crisis, economic meltdown and people are dying due to lack of beds/staff in hospitals/social services.

The Tories blamed Labour for economic problems caused by the 2008 global crash.

Now we are faced with an horrendous position, recession, huge debts, homelessness, and lack of affordable housing.

The Tory line is that it’s all due to Covid, wars and the energy crisis, nothing to do with them or their disastrous handling of the economy, with huge financial sums going to the VIP lane of Tory donors to provide useless items to the NHS.

The Conservatives have been in power for 14 years so our current predicament is down to them.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame “all politicians” for not making up their minds, it’s down to us to become more involved in politics because it affects all our lives.

Most of all we need a stable, honest and open style of government we know we can trust, it’s up to us to make that judgement.
