Drybrook’s Peaper marks 300th game with try double

DRYBROOK recorded a fourth Regional 2 Severn win in a row after a 31-7 victory over Keynsham.

They retrieved the ball from the kick-off and sent Sam Morton-smith flying through for a try, Tom Treherne adding the conversion.

A neat chip over the top led to a converted try to level things up, but Sam Peaper marked his 300th game with a try for a 12-7 half-time lead.

Ryan Chappell-thomas went over before Peaper grabbed his second try, which Treherne converted, then Chappell-thomas’ second try sealed the win with Treherne converting, setting them up for this weekend’s trip to second-placed Old Centralian­s.

Newent went down to an 11-8 Regional 2 Midlands West defeat at Hereford.

They went ahead with a try from Kyle Towers, but Ivell’s conversion attempt was off target before Hereford breached Newent’s defence with a catch and drive, but Newent were quick to regain the lead, Ivell slotting a penalty.

A key moment occurred 17 minutes into the second half, Will Tanner was red-carded and the hosts were quick to capitalise, winning a penalty to tie the score at 8-8.

The winning score stemmed from a penalty as the referee marched them back 20m for dissent, the kick curling inside the upright.

Newent had an immediate opportunit­y to level matters, but Ivell’s kick faded to the wrong side of the posts as Hereford held on.

Cheltenham lost 44-19 at Moseley Oak, as first-half tries from Chris Waller and Omar Ly with a conversion by Curtis Neal had the visitors in the game, and when prop Ashley Lockwood barged his way through, Neal converting, Cheltenham were 24-19 down at the break.

But the game slipped away as the hosts ran in three tries and kicked a penalty at the death.

Counties 1 Western North leaders Longlevens suffered their second defeat of the season, losing 59-24 at Old Redcliffia­ns II. Luke Stratford, Mike Yorke, Oliver Deacon and Joshua Stratton scored their tries, with a conversion each for Piers Fortey and Harry Atkinson.

With the sides meeting on March 23, Cinderford United are seven points behind the Griffins with a game in hand after beating third-placed Nailsea & Backwell 21-7.

Dec Fissenden scored two tries, with Harry Johnson going over, while Joe Langbridge kicked three conversion­s.

Counties 2 Gloucester­shire North top two Gordon League and Old Patesians had convincing wins, with League eight points clear after their 48-8 win at Stroud, scoring tries through Luke Stephens (two), Ben Gamston (two), Tom Gibbs (two), Carlo Colucci and Rich Groves, Luke Mcmahon converting three and Colucci one, while Dean Tattersall scored Stroud’s try with Joe Ashenford kicking a penalty.

Pats have a game in hand in second after they won 58-20 at Hucclecote. Ollie Stephens and Lucas Town scored twice with a try each for Johnny Daws, Sam Rhymes, Ashley Howard, Cassius Earle-davies and Joe Mcdean, Rhymes kicking five conversion­s and a penalty.

Hucclecote’s tries came from Andrew Smith, James Price and Brad Harris, who also kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Bream are a point behind Counties 2 Gloucester­shire South leaders Dings Crusaders II with a game in hand after a walkover against Old Colstonian­s.

Ollie Gorman and Renzo Angad scored two tries each in Dursley’s 41-26 win at Bristol Saracens, with Nico Ferranti and Sam Pinker also going over, while Charlie Davison booted four conversion­s and a penalty.

Berry Hill lost 37-24 to St Mary’s Old Boys, Richard Hobbs with two tries, and one each for Josh Element and Craig Harris, Jake Ashley with two conversion­s.

In Counties 3 Gloucester­shire North, Matson II and Painswick had walkovers against Longlevens II and Ross-on-wye respective­ly.

Cinderford Bucks are through to the final of the Forest of Dean Combinatio­n Minor Cup after a convincing 29-5 victory over Berry Hill United.

James Taylor scored all four tries, with Ryan Walding kicking three conversion­s and a penalty.
