Closing in Hartpury one win from title after 5-0 success

HARTPURY University can clinch the Hellenic League Division One title if they beat Moreton Rangers on Friday night.

They were 5-0 winners over Newent Town on Tuesday, to move 16 points clear at the top.

Louis Manning, King Baidoo, Alex Hainault, Riley Mcgregor and Owen Giles scored in the win over Newent, after they drew 1-1 with second-placed Clanfield 85 on Saturday.

Clanfield led through George Seacole but a 76th-minute Billy Osborn goal rescued a point to keep them 13 points clear.

Shortwood United were 3-0 winners at Sporting Club Inkberrow on Tuesday night, with goals from Jack Gardner, Fin Byrnes and Dan Gayner.

On Saturday, Wood and and Stonehouse Town both came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3, with Devizes Town and Newent respective­ly.

At Devizes, Wood trailed when an Olly Whelan clearance hit Tom King and flew in for an own goal before Jay Walters made it 2-0 at the break.

Wood regained confidence with an early second half goal from Dan Gayner, but Luke Hopper made it 3-1.

With five minutes to play, Alex Gayner made it 3-2, before Ollie Price completed the comeback.

Mateusz Klich put Newent in front at Stonehouse but the Magpies levelled throigh Luke Soule, only for Tyler Weir and Brad Phillips to make it 3-1.

Spencer Martin pulled one back before a late Chris Earle free-kick made it 3-3.

Cheltenham Saracens were 2-1 winners over Tytheringt­on Rocks, Jamie Goodwin and Tom Hoskins giving them a 2-0 half-time lead before Kyle Head pulled one back.

Fairford Town, Slimbridge and Cinderford Town remain in the hunt for the Premier Division play-offs, although none of the trio won over the weekend.

Oliver Case’s goal saw Fairford, who sit fourth in the table, lose 1-0 at thirdplace­d Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

Slimbridge are two points and a place outside the play-offs, in sixth, after they drew 1-1 with table-toppers Corsham Town.

George Neill put the Swans ahead but Owen Humphries levelled for Corsham, while Cinderford needed a 75thminute Ben Vine header to rescue a 1-1 draw with Wrcester Raiders.

The Foresters are ninth, six points off the top five, but have games in hand on all the sides above them.

Tuffley Rovers picked up wins over Lydney Town and Brimscombe & Thrupp to ensure their Premier Division status.

They fell behind to Lydney on Friday,

Billy Guest scoring, but Kieran Alder levelled before an own goal gave Lydney the lead again.

Jake Rhodes levelled for a second time, then, after Lydney had Aston Jeffs sent off, Alder hit the winner.

Against Brimscombe on Tuesday night, Karnell Chambers scored twice, with Brad Bevan adding the third.

Brimscombe had beaten Thornbury Town 1-0 on Saturday with a Liam Harper goal, while Longlevens fell to a 3-0 loss against Hereford Pegasus.
