Bourton quartet shine on south coast
FOUR Bourton Roadrunners ventured to the south coast for the Brighton Marathon, and amongst the 15,000 runners was Alex Pye, who set a personal best of 3:24.46.
First-timer Rebecca Townsend was pleased with her 3:52:34, which will put her in a good position for the London Marathon in two weeks, while Barry O’leary achieved a PB of 4:16:06.
Basia Legierska, also running her first full marathon, in memory of the recent loss of her mother, finished in 4:23:14.
The White Horse Half marathon attracted a field of more than 400 runners, including three from the club.
Darren Long had a brilliant run completing the 13.1 miles in a time of 1:24.30, giving him second in the male-vet 50 category and 20th overall. Peter Carrick achieved a brilliant time of 1:26:36 with Maxine Emes clocking 1:42:00.
Father and son Tony and Kevin Goodwill opted for the Highworth 5 miles, with Kevin staying in front from the-off, achieving 33.57, while Tony finished in 43:22.
Susan Hunt also opted for a shorter distance this weekend, selected the Leamington Spa Regency 10K, finishing in a time of 54:29 and well up the field of nearly 1,800.
Melissa Samuel was fortunate enough to obtain a highly soughtafter place in the London Landmarks Half, which as the name suggests, takes in most of the city’s historic sites.
Amongst the field of 19,000 runners she finished in 3:28.43.
