Support for flooded communitie­s on the way with special visits

DEDICATED support for communitie­s recently affected by flooding will soon be available around Tewkesbury borough.

The National Flood Forum support team, along with Tewkesbury Borough Council’s Community officers and other agencies, will be visiting Tewkesbury, Tirley, Sandhurst, Minsterwor­th and Longford from Tuesday, April 23 in a mobile support vehicle.

Chris Ashman, Executive Director of Place said: “We understand how difficult the recent flooding events this year have been and encourage residents who have been affected to come along to any of the drop-in sessions available.

“Council officers and partner agencies such as Severn Trent Water and the Environmen­t Agency will be available alongside the National Flood Forum support team, offering practical advice and support to recover from the effects of flooding.’’

Residents can attend drop-in informatio­n sessions, receive tailored recovery advice, assistance with insurance matters, finding the right tradespeop­le, installati­on of flood defences and exploring available grants and financial assistance. The mobile unit and teams will visit the following locations - no appointmen­t is necessary.

» Tuesday, April 23 - Tewkesbury, Gloucester Road car park, 9.30am-7pm

» Wednesday, April 24 - Tirley, Village Hall car park 9.30am-1pm

» Wednesday, April 24 - Sandhurst, St. Lawrence’s Church car park, 2pm-7pm

» Thursday, April 25 - Minsterwor­th, Village Hall car park, 9.30am-1pm

» Thursday, April 25 - Longford, Queens Head car park, 2pm-7pm

» Friday, April 26 - Tewkesbury, Gloucester Road car park, 9.30am1pm

Heather Shepherd, Flood Recovery Specialist for the National Flood Forum said: “Having been flooded myself, I understand how traumatic it is.

“I know that the process of recovery is fraught with stresses and pressures, which is why I would urge anyone who has any flood-related issues or questions to come along to the recovery trailer.

“’We are here to help, offer advice, and guide you to the best sources of profession­al support and actively listen to your concerns.”

During the drop-in sessions the National Flood Forum, Gloucester­shire County Council, the Environmen­t Agency and Severn Trent Water will be available offering local advice and support in partnershi­p with the borough council.
