A disappointing discovery

I’m off 5 and recently shot 41 points after declaring a supplementary card prior to my round. My current handicap (5.2) is the lowest it has ever been and I have aspirations to get into the fours, so was delighted that this round was going to mean I had achieved my goal.

However, after handing the card in and emailing my club secretary, I discovered category 1 players can’t hand in supplementary cards. This baffled me as I had missed a few competitions and simply wanted to get my handicap lower after finding some form in the latter part of the season. It didn’t seem fair.

This has made me look forward to 2020 and the new World Handicap System, which will allow players to hand in every scorecard and perhaps have handicaps which are more representative of their abilities.
