The Open returns to Portrush
The Open Championship is being held outside Scotland or England for only the second time with a return to Royal Portrush in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The Dunluce course – which first hosted the championship in 1951 – has undergone major recent changes, with the addition of two new holes created by architect Martin Ebert deep in the dunes.
The return of one of the world’s top sporting events after a 68-year hiatus was always going to cause some excitement, but even The R&A was surprised with the unprecedented demand for tickets. All championship days are sold out and the tournament looks set to be the largest sporting event ever held on the island of Ireland. What price a Rory Mcilroy victory?
