VERDICT
Having watched Wilson’s Driver vs Driver 2 TV series, it’s clear an awful lot went into developing Cortex and for us, it improved on the Triton from last year. The adjustability is not only simpler to grasp, but it’s more effective in adjusting launch conditions and flight. Switching the 2g and 8g sole weights changed the draw/ fade bias by ten yards, while in the two Slide Track extremes, spin changed by 150rpm.
Well-struck drives are rewarded with lofty ball speeds and carries. Lower-face strikes didn’t quite perform as we’d have liked, but the adjustability means you can find the balance of forgiveness, distance and shot shape you want. It looks superb and the performance is comparable with premium drivers, making Cortex an appealing prospect at this relatively modest price point.
