When you take penalty relief at point of entry, I am assuming that you have to drop the ball outside the red penalty area? Could you drop it on the red line? oltimer, GM website forum

Q

When you take lateral relief from the point where the ball last crossed the edge of the red penalty area, you have a two club-length relief area, no closer to the hole, in which to drop. The relief area can be in any area of the course except the same penalty area. The line marking the penalty area is considered to be part of the penalty area. If a player’s ball is on or touching the line, they would be required to drop the ball again without penalty until it comes to rest within their relief area – Rule 17.1d & 14.3c. One of our members has a sticker with the crest of a football club on the top of his driver. He claims this is okay as long as it is not on the face of the club. I believe there are two reasons why this would make the club non-conforming: 1) There could be an additional weight under the sticker which changes the characteristics of the club, and 2) The sticker could be used to assist in shot alignment, which I do not think is permissible.

Q

ASo long as the sticker is not replaced or adjusted during the round, then there is no problem. Attachments to the clubhead (other than the face), such as protective coverings or decorative items, are permitted provided they are semi-permanent. However, such items must not excessively protrude from the clubhead and any permanent additions to a clubhead would be considered part of the head. Therefore, they would have to conform to the Equipment Rules, i.e. the limits on shape and dimensions of the clubhead etc.
