Mizuno ST-X Driver

GM Verdict

We were very impressed with last year’s ST200 models, which became some of the most underrated drivers given the performance and appealing price point. For 2021, Mizuno’s drivers have been further refined, with the ST models representing the culmination of a three-year design journey.

The feel of the ST-X driver is fantastic. Solid and explosive from a wide area, it screams power and the distance we created backs this up.

In terms of the Skytrak launch monitor data, the ST-X was our favourite of the two ST models. With faster ball speeds, it flew longer than both the sister ST-Z and the old ST200G, admittedly by less than a handful of yards.

Whether this was down to the more compact shape or the in-built draw bias is hard to say. What was clear during our testing, however, was that it delivered the most consistent results, with shot after shot finding the fairway. We found the ST-X driver a little easier to turn over from right to left, which will certainly please golfers who struggle with a miss to the right and should help eliminate one side of the course.

The ST-X driver might not represent a huge year-on-year leap forward for Mizuno, but it has still built on what was already a very strong offering that went under the radar for some. The overall combination of looks, feel and performance make the ST-X a worthy contender for anyone on the search for a new driver coming just under the price of the more premium options.

The Mizuno ST range boasts two excellent drivers, but the stronger, draw-biased flight of the ST-X will arguably have broader appeal – it’s the longest Mizuno driver we’ve ever hit.

Key Technology

Mizuno’s new SAT2041 Beta Ti face has the ability to withstand strong forces and boasts a fine-grain structure that is resistant to fatigue.

A complex carbon construction delivers both potent ball speeds and a dense, satisfying sensation at impact.

A heel-side sole weight adds draw bias and Mizuno’s Quick Switch affords four degrees of loft adjustability.
