Wayfaring in Wales
Documenting my exploits during a time when golf is grounded and travel taboo is problematic. Fingers crossed that by the time you read this, we will be within a drive and a wedge of golfing trips being very much back on the agenda.
To that end, I spent some of the later stages of lockdown rearranging last year’s postponements, as well as booking one or two new trips based on all the drooling I had done over the winter. By coincidence, a pending pair are both to Wales.
Last July, I was due to visit the south, returning to Pennard and Ashburnham and making my debut at Clyne and Langland Bay. With the kind cooperation of all these clubs, I was able to book exactly the same itinerary. I cannot wait! My other one is to pastures very much new to me, Anglesey. Here, I am due to play Henllys, Anglesey, Holyhead and Bull Bay; four varied courses designed by the likes of Herbert Fowler, James Braid and two-time Open Champion Harold Hilton.
These visits will enable me to write about the courses for the magazine and website, so please remember, I am really only doing all this in the line of duty!
Did you know?

Not only was Harold Hilton a leading amateur, but he was also the founding editor of Golf Monthly, the world’s oldest golf publication, back in 1911.
