Designer Guerin Rife worked on the armlock putting concept for two and a half years
The tagline for this new Evnroll putter range is “armlock putting made easy” and it’s another fascinating concept from master putter designer, Guerin Rife.
The Midlock grip features a patented design which has the deepest pistol dimension allowed by The R&A. It positions the grip sideways, which pushes the shaft angle away from the mid-forearm. This reduces the typical 9˚ of loft to just 4˚, which is similar to a gentle forward press. The idea is that this will allow a set-up position that should encourage an effortless, one-piece putting stroke with no unwanted wrist movement.
lThere’s no need for any special shafts or heavy head weights and it immediately solves the common problem of too much shaft lean with traditional armlock putters and the need for an exaggerated forward press. The long slant hosel also helps you set the putter in that forward press position with the right amount of loft.
lCONSISTENT BY DESIGN SPOILT FOR CHOICE
There are six new shapes in the new V-series (V means versatile) and four hosel options. The ER5V (pictured) is a winged mallet with a hatched-out mid-section. To get the right length with the Midlock grip, add six inches to your normal putter length, so 34in becomes 40in. There are four options.
